Nine Hall Cycling Tour
If you want to indulge in a cultural fix, pick up some local history, check out some neo-Norman and Puginian Gothic exteriors or just tred in the steps of Agatha Christie this is a cycling must.
In total-a 22 mile heritage ride suitable for adults or family groups with older children (14+) The ride will take participants through history ,taking in nine wonderful great houses and halls whilst navigating five river valleys. So definitely river deep but not mountain high.
The terrain is flat (only two hills-phew) on good surface tracks and primarily off road. Unaccompanied children, under 16s will need parental consent. Children under 16 must wear cycling helmets.
The tour will be led by local cycling enthusiast Stuart Johnson the esteemed author of the Nine Hall Tour. The route has been fully risk assessed and the leader is fully insured with British Cycling.
The heritage gems will include:
• Bredbury Hall: Circa 1658 Grade 2 Listed
• Goyt Hall Farm :Circa 1570 Grade 2 Listed
• Offerton Hall: Circa 1650 Grade 2 Listed
• Bramall Hall: Circa 14th Century Grade 1 Listed
Lunch at Bruntwood Park (don’t forget your packed lunch and a drink)
• Abney Hall: Circa 1847Grade 2 Listed
• Underbank Hall: Circa 16th century Grade 2 Listed
• Pendlebury Hall: Circa 1880 Grade 2 Listed
The route ends in Stockport Town Centre the home to an arresting art gallery, the amazing air raid shelters, a fabulous Hat Works, the super Stockport Story and the stunning Staircase House all with a 750 year old market as a backdrop.
