Thousands of people took part in events across Yorkshire and the Humber during Adult Learners’ Week.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • 92 workplaces held events throughout the week. Read the full story. One of the highlights was an event held at Arriva Yorkshire, who invited Ian Clayton, TV personality and author along to their Learning at Work Day, to talk about what inspired him to get into writing and learning as an adult. Arriva also held a breakfast event where drivers and engineers who had recently completed training were presented with certificates for their achievements.
  • An ‘Ethics in Islam’ seminar was on offer at Bradford Central Library. With speakers from the University of Leeds, the event aimed to give an insight into the teaching of Islamic ethical values and included talks on ‘Islamic Ethics’, ‘Ethics in Medicine’ and ‘An Ethical Framework for Trade and Finance.’
  • Business Employment Services Training Ltd (BEST) held a number of events across their training centres. View photos here
  • Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) at Sheffield Hallam University held a celebration event to recognise the achievements of all their adult learners.

  • Crosland Moor Community Centre held a mini fashion show, and cake competition as well as IT workshops
  • A celebration event took place in Dewsbury Town Centre to showcase the range of learning available in the area
  • Baildon Library held an Adult Learners’ Week photography competition, the winner was ‘Himalayan Poppy’ photographed by Len Morris (see image at top of page)
  • Swarthmore Education Centre held a health and wellbeing day and an open day was held at at Children and Family Action in Hornsea.
