Darren has spent only 11 months outside custody since beginning a life of crime at the age of just 10, so when he was sentenced to time in HMP Holme House, he promised himself he’d try to change.
Darren began to work on the servery and as a cleaner in the prison, becoming aware of qualifications he could take to complement his prison job, and completed food safety and health and safety qualifications. With each achievement his self-esteem grew and he achieved further qualifications in environmental awareness, vocational awards in industrial cleaning and Adult Literacy Level 1.
“I am now very happy with what I have managed to achieve for myself, plus I now have the skills and qualifications to get a job or self-employment. For the first time in my life I have the self-confidence and belief that I will manage to turn my life around and can look forward to leading a normal life, out of prison, all due to my own efforts,” ended Darren.
