David left school with few qualifications, was living on benefits and had constant rejections when trying to find a job. However, when his girlfriend became pregnant, David, aged 23, ‘begged’ his way into a cleaning job at South Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust, so he could support his family.
David began learning at work whenever the opportunity arose, so he could build a better future. Now a father of three, he still continues to learn and last year alone he gained an NVQ Level 2 in Gym Instruction, an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, Numeracy and Literacy Level 1 and a First Aid at Work certificate. On top of that he also completed his training to become a Special Constable with the Essex Police.
David has just started a new job too, as a healthcare assistant at Wormwood Scrubs Prison, where he’ll continue learning on the job to become a qualified nurse. David said, “[Learning] has made a huge difference to myself as a person, my career and my family.”
