McDonald's Restaurants Limited
McDonald’s operates over 1,200 restaurants across the UK, which collectively employ 97,000 people and serve 3 million customers every day. The restaurant chain has been actively involved with Adult Learners’ Week for a number of years, having first launched its Apprenticeship programme in 2009.
In addition to Apprenticeships, McDonald’s offers employees the opportunity to gain a range of nationally recognised qualifications, which include Adult Certificates in English and maths and a Foundation Degree in Managing Business Operations. The company invests £43 million annually in staff training and development, and has supported its employees to gain more than 57,000 qualifications to date.
These qualifications support career progression – around 90 per cent of McDonald’s Restaurant Managers started out as Crew. Senior staff are committed to adult learning, often vocal about its importance for productivity and workforce satisfaction, and the company prides itself on its proven track record of promoting from within.
Jez Langhorn, Senior Vice President and Chief People Officer says, “We started offering Apprenticeships five years ago because we believe that by putting our employees first and championing their development, we attract and retain the most dedicated and motivated people. With time and hard work this programme has grown, and we’re proud of the fact we offer industry-leading training, the chance to gain nationally recognised qualifications and great career progression.
Work-based learning delivers for our business, delivers for our people and ultimately, for our customers.”
