Brian Goodliffe
Brian has been a safety steward at Nottingham Forest Football Club for an incredible 60 years. He regards training and development as key to this role. He achieved the Football Safety qualification offered at the City Ground in the 1990s, and two years ago he achieved a full NVQ Level 2 in Spectator Safety. He is currently working towards the Level 3 in Spectator Safety and is also taking a Level 2 Skills for Life Literacy qualification.
“The training courses have helped me keep up with the changes that happen in football stewarding,” said Brian. “Acting as a safety steward, other people’s safety lies in your hands, and by taking these qualifications, I know I am right up to date with my skills and I can be confident when I’m working at a football match.”
He continued, “As a result of qualifying in these subjects, I was able to work as a steward supervisor at Wembley Stadium for several events. It’s great to be able to update my skills to ensure that I’m doing the best job I can.”
Brian has also learnt a great deal about the club, its history and achievements, which he needs for the stadium tours he conducts. Nottingham Forest has shown its appreciation of Brian by naming and planting a tree in a nearby wood in recognition of his long and devoted service.
