Lisa Marie Salter
Lisa Marie Salter has used education as a way of breaking the cycle of abuse she and her family have suffered in the past. Having come to the conclusion that she could follow a path of self destruction or fight for a different future, she made the decision to better herself. Lisa Marie is now a freelance IT Technician, helping others who cannot afford to pay for expertise.
Lisa Marie was unable to read until the age of 10 – when she was placed in foster care with a teacher. Her first taste of education was learning about stable management and riding, after which she improved her Maths and English skills. She was then introduced to IT and enrolled on a course which made her realise that this was to be her career.
“Studying has been the drive to help myself and others, and that has been my motivation to continue my education,” she said. “It’s not easy for me – I fight for every grade because I want to make a difference in my life and the lives of the people around me.”
Not only is Lisa Marie now offering IT expertise, she is a youth and crèche leader at weekends and a peer mentor for other students at her college whilst continuing to progress with her IT qualifications.
She ended, “Learning to me is watching the lights switch on in a person’s mind when they truly understand.”
