Lela Sarah Namuli
Lela was brought to the UK by missionaries in 2007 to study and make a better life for herself and her family back in Uganda, as she and her siblings were orphans who had spent years living on the streets. She enrolled on a BA degree course in Health and Social Care at Colchester Institute, receiving part-funding from sponsors, but having to work full-time to pay for the rest of her university course.
Lela is currently in her final year, working tirelessly so that one day she can make a significant difference to the lives of others, including her siblings. Her aim is to progress to a Masters degree in Health and Social Care and ultimately work for an organisation like the United Nations.
“Learning for me has been a massive opportunity that has opened doors and made me look to the future. Through learning I have gained confidence, a voice and belief in myself. I have learnt that anything is possible with determination and focus,” said Lela. “I never knew learning could be this adventurous, fun and enjoyable: learning for me will never end.”
