Patricia Tombs
Patricia was terrified of learning with computers and had a particular dread of Maths until forced to confront her fears while training as a gym instructor. Before completing the City & Guilds level 3 apprenticeship, she had to gain level 2 Maths and English. “Being dyslexic I find reading, writing and maths difficult, I therefore came to adult learning looking for help.”
Under the tutelage of Maria Martin, Skills for Life curriculum manager and teacher at Adult Community Learning, Patricia immersed herself in learning and went from strength to strength, signing up for additional computer studies in order to sit all the tests.
Moreover, says Maria, she displayed a natural talent to teach, showing other learners how to access the Internet and use the website to practise their Maths and English.
“She has become an excellent peer to her fellow learners by always praising them and working collaboratively with them. She is incredible and will achieve all her learning goals in the near future.”
