Outstanding Individual Learner nominations

The eligibility criteria for the 2012 awards will be published here when the awards are launched in October, but we have listed the eligibility criteria for the 2011 Awards below to give you an idea of what we are looking for.

The eligibility criteria for the Adult Learners’ Week Awards 2011 are:

Learners who are nominated for an Individual Adult Learners' Week Award must:

  • live in England;
  • have undertaken some of their learning between January 2010 and January 2011;
  • be aged 18 or over on 28 January 2011 and if under 21, have had a break of at least three years from full time study.

What sort of learner wins an Adult Learners' Week Award?

Award Winners will:

  • have learning stories that are outstanding, remarkable or inspirational. Through learning, they will have achieved beyond their expectations and made a significant difference to their lives and to other people’s lives.
  • have done a great amount of learning, made significant progress to achieve their goals, successfully started a new job, gained a promotion, volunteered to support their community, supported others through their learning or developed new skills that transformed their lives and/or the lives of their family and community.
  • have their stories used by the media to inspire other adults to take up learning.

Publicity

Adult Learners’ Week Award Winners generate significant media interest and it is important that nominees are aware of this and agree to their story being used if they win.

Please pay special attention to part 5 of the form, regarding publicity, as the information supplied could be used in the press and media to inspire others into learning.

If your nominee is a prisoner or on probation, due to the sensitivity of the information please make sure that authorisation is gained from the relevant authorities before nominating.

Important:
Please indicate in the Private Information section at the end of the form any information which is part of their story but which your nominee does not wish to be made public.
